Blog Feb 2018

Dear parents, carers and friends of Crosby High,

I cannot believe we are now in February! Where did January go? It has been a short term but as usual we have packed a lot in and you will see a real flavour of our curriculum in the newsletter which will be published on the web on Friday. Our new minibus has been well used, for example Mr Hannaway’s class went to the World Museum and many children have been out learning from visits and extra-curricular experiences for example a number of children went to the Plaza to see a film highlighting the plight of the Jews during the war in support of Holocaust Memorial Day (which was a feature in the Champion on 31.1.18 so thank you to Miss Allen for organising it.)

I have a couple of practical issues to talk about on the medical front this week. We have had quite a bad time with sickness, both staff and pupils, so I have been insisting children wash their hands or use our sanitisers as they come into the hall as one precaution to reduce the spread of infection. We have also had some formal hand washing sessions led by our school nurse. If any of you would prefer your child to have their own small hand sanitiser in their bag that is something we would support.

The second issue has been head lice with a few cases as well as evidence of some children with eggs. We would always let you know if we discovered your child had head lice. It is not something to be ashamed of as we know head lice love clean hair and that a school community is very easy for them to spread. I would ask you to check your child’s head, a good idea would be every Friday night so if you do find these unwanted visitors you have the weekend to treat them. It may be more than one member of your family needs treating. I would also encourage those of you with daughters with lovely long hair to have it tied up for school.

On Tuesday it is National Safer Internet Day, an event we support every year as we feel it is so important for our pupils to be safe online. Over the course of the week all pupils will be doing extra work around online safety and Mr. Molyneux, our IT and computing lead teacher has prepared and shared a number of supportive resources for the staff so everyone can get involved. Please use this week as an opportunity for you to talk to your child about what they are doing in school but also to engage with them about their online activities, maybe get them to show you some of the apps they use or have a look at some of their posts just to check everything is OK. The theme is “Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you”  and there are many supportive ideas on the safer internet day website including some films you could watch together with your child.(www.saferinternet.org.uk)

Have a good half term with your families and we will see all the pupils back in school on Monday 19th  February 2018.

Oxton-Grant over and out.
