Blog May 2018

Blog, May 2018

Dear parents, carers and friends of Crosby High,

May has arrived and hopefully improved weather is on the way, which is great for us all in our final term of the year. The summer term is always action packed with more opportunities to learn in the outdoors (we already have potatoes and tomatoes planted in our allotment) and many of our favourite events coming up with sports day, Y11 residential to High Wray, the year 11 leavers’ Prom and the celebration whole school barbeque. However, before that there are lots of exams and accreditation processes for our year 11s to complete and we wish them well as they come to the end of their time with us.

Parents’ evening was a great success and I thank all the families who attended. It is so important for your child to see that you value their school work and can celebrate their progress. I have written to you all to gauge your views about the night, and how we can improve the evening and be able to welcome even more of you,the school in general and our curriculum(see the ‘letters’ tab on our website for a copy). I look forward to your responses.

Year 9 have been on their four day residential to Kingswood (23.4.18 to 26.4.18) and it was a fantastic experience for the pupils. Twenty six children attended, supported by 10 adults. We are so proud of each and every one of them as they were challenged in so many ways and despite the wide range of abilities and needs all of them achieved highly. For some pupils it was the first time they had been away from home for so long and the fact they accomplished this was a huge milestone. I was delighted to hear such glowing feedback from the Kingswood staff who said Crosby High children were an absolute pleasure: so polite, positive and well behaved, as well as extremely supportive of each other, we were very proud of them for that too. I have to say a huge thank you to the staff team who made this experience possible, ably led by Mrs Hopkinson, Head of KS3, as they put your children before their own families in order to support and enable them to have this experience. Mrs Hopkinson has invited all families into school on 16.5.18 at 1.45 to 3.15 as we have prepared a video of all the activities and experiences to share with you as well as many photographs. Please see the gallery for some examples.

Finally, I am happy to announce a parent has come forward to represent yourselves as new parent Governor; he is Professor Yates whose son is in Y7. More detail about him and his background will follow on our website as he is currently preparing his pen portrait.

Please look at the calendar of events as there are three teacher INSET days this month when the school is closed to pupils. (4.5.18, 8.5.18 and 25.5.18) Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend.

Thank you

Oxton-Grant over and out.
