School Council

School Council at Crosby High

Aims and Objectives.

At CHS we believe that it is important that the pupils are able to:

  • Provide the opportunity for the students become partners in their own education and that they make a positive contribution to the school ethos and environment.

  • To develop and promote student’s self-confidence, social skills and their responsible behaviour towards everybody in the school community.

  • To develop the student’s knowledge, skills and understanding of what it means to be an active citizen and to be able to participate in the wider community.

  • To develop the student’s communication skills.

  • To develop the student’s recognition of themselves as worthwhile individuals with a right to be heard.

  • To ensure that the students have a viable voice and that they are able to share their opinions and ideas with others.

  • To encourage the children to become more responsible and give them the opportunity to be more actively involved in the decision making process of the school.

The school council itself consists of a representative from each form class. Their role is to be the ‘voice of the class’ and collect, collate and disseminate the ideas and questions from the class and present them at the council meetings (which are held half termly).

Since September, the main focus of the Council has been on looking at food choices. A healthy ‘slush’ drinks machine has been reinstalled (due to popular demand) and is proving to be a great success. The choice and variety of food available at lunch time has been widened. After council discussions with Mrs Keane and the rest of the kitchen staff, a variety of foods ranging from pulled pork BBQ ciabattas to homemade soup have been introduced onto the menu. The idea of a ‘healthy sub day’ has also been put forward and will be introduced later in the summer term.

School council successes are not just limited to culinary delights! The school council has also been successful in providing more equipment for the students to play with at break and lunchtimes. Similarly, the school council was also successful in ensuring that the ever popular basketball nets were replaced after many years of hard service!
