Computer Science & ICT

 KS3

All students in KS3 will study Computer science for two lessons each week. Students will follow six different strands in KS3 which they will revisit on a yearly basis. The six strands include:

  • Communication & networks
  • Algorithms
  • Data & data representation
  • Hardware & Processing
  • Programming & Development
  • Information technology

 

KS4

In Year 10 students will either take a Computer science or ICT qualification.

Computer Science

The students who will follow the Computer science pathway and take an Entry Level Computer science qualification. This course consists of the following sections:

1) Computer Hardware and Software - Exam assessed - 20% of final grade.

2) Computer memory and storage/Moral, legal, cultural and environmental concerns - Exam assessed - 20% of final grade.

3) Computational Logic & Algorithms - Exam assessed - 20% of final grade.

4) Programming techniques & Data representation - Exam assessed - 20% of final grade.

5) Programming Project - Controlled assessment - 20% of final grade.

 

ICT

Functional Skills Qualifications

The students who will follow the ICT pathway and take an Entry Level to Level 1 ICT qualification. Students will investigate and undertake learning in the following sections:

  • Using ICT Systems
  • Finding and selecting information
  • Developing, presenting and communicating information

This is an exam assessed qualification.

 

Programming & IT Certificates

Furthermore, students will also study a number of AQA Entry level unit qualifications in:

  • Using email
  • Graphics
  • Coding

This is a controlled assessment qualification.
