Outdoor Education
Welcome to Outdoor Education at Crosby High School. Our Outdoor Education programme is led by Mr Hannaway and is taught across all Base classes, as well as to Year 10 and Year 11 pupils working towards their Open Award qualifications in Outdoor Education.
Outdoor Education is all about learning beyond the classroom. We explore woodland spaces, school grounds, local nature reserves and community environments. Pupils learn practical skills such as shelter-building, tool safety, fire lighting, outdoor cooking and nature identification, as well as teamwork, problem solving and resilience.
For our younger pupils, Outdoor Education is closely linked to Forest School principles, focusing on curiosity, play, hands-on exploration and building confidence through small achievable steps.
For our older pupils, Outdoor Education develops into a structured skills-based qualification, where they work towards independence, leadership, environmental understanding and applied outdoor capabilities
Across all year groups, our aims are simple:
-
To build confidence and independence
-
To develop respect for nature and each other
-
To encourage teamwork, resilience and creativity
-
To support physical and emotional well-being
Outdoor Education helps our pupils grow — not just as learners, but as confident, thoughtful young people.
